In Remembrance of William Thomas “Will” Hegman IV

Will Hegman (1951-2018), founder of Mississippi Solar, will always be remembered as the “Pioneer of Solar in Mississippi”.
Will began working with Strauss Electric when designing and installing wind and solar on his sailboat in the Caribbean in the 1980’s. When Will moved back to Mississippi, he brought with him these skills and a passion to bring solar to his home state. Will completed additional education and training achieving NABCEP certification as a solar professional.

Will was a strong advocate for education and had a desire to see schools in Mississippi benefit from solar, thus donating and installing the first school solar installation in the state at Northwest Rankin Elementary School. Following the installation, Will and his wife, Carolyn, co-ordinated the Northwest Rankin Solar Energy Day in which students and faculty alike learned about how solar worked and how the school would benefit from producing energy from the sun. As the owner of Mississippi Solar and living near Philadelphia, Will established Mississippi Solar as a business sponsor for Tushka Hashi Solar Car and the Choctaw Central High School Solar Car Team. Will often coordinated other educational events through school districts and solar tours at his farm.
